about

Joining forces with trumpeter Tom Arthurs, who has been described as “a master improvisor”, “a restlessly creative and experimental musician”, “ingenious”, “at once rhapsodically free and focused”, this electro-acoustic project with Simon-Mary Vincent has its roots in musical collaborations which were initiated through their meeting in London in 1999.

Their collaborations have become more frequent since reuniting in Berlin in 2008, resulting in their first EP on the Not Applicable Label (London, 2010) and concerts in both cities.

Focusing on extreme detail and attention to the contours and spectral profiles of sound, their electo-acoustic music is created through a combination of the temporal sensibilities of both studio composition and live improvisation. These aspects of sonic manipulation are integral to their respective approaches to music making, and such is the quality of focus in their joint work that the listener is made aware of a finely-crafted yet dynamic sound world which unfolds in real-time.

The recording, made in March 2015 in the Paul Gerhardt Church in Schöneberg Berlin, marks a turning point in the nature and intensity of their collaboration, and has given rise to their own description of this project as ‘Real-Time Sound Sculpture’.

Vision Of Sound Records are very proud to announce this stunning new CD, featuring wonderful artwork by photographer Britt Hatzius.
